PORTO — When Chelsea’s proposed €40m deal for Samu Omorodion collapsed in the final hours of the August transfer window, few anticipated that FC Porto’s subsequent swoop would prove to be the transfer coup of the European season.

On Thursday night at the Estádio do Dragão, the 20-year-old Spanish center-forward delivered another powerhouse display, brushing aside Hoffenheim defender Kevin Akpoguma to smash home his 8th goal in just eight competitive appearances for the Portuguese giants.

Standing at 6ft 4in with blistering pace and lethal finishing off both feet, Omorodion has scored four goals in three Europa League matches alongside four goals in five Primeira Liga outings.

"Samu has unique physical and tactical profiles," Porto head coach Vítor Bruno enthused. "He possesses the speed to run in behind and the strength to dominate center-backs in duels. But what impresses me most is his hunger to learn and work for the team defensively."

Porto secured 50% of Omorodion’s economic rights from Atlético Madrid for just €15m, with options to purchase further percentages. Crucially, his contract contains a €100m release clause.

European scouts from Arsenal, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich have attended Porto’s last four fixtures, with clubs already discussing potential summer approaches.

For now, Omorodion is spearheading Porto’s pursuit of domestic and continental glory, continuing his meteoric rise from Spanish lower leagues to European stardom.
