ISTANBUL — Leave it to José Mourinho to transform a fiery 1–1 Europa League draw into an international viral sensation. Following his 58th-minute dismissal by French referee Clément Turpin in Istanbul, the Fenerbahçe boss unleashed an astonishing, sarcastic monologue that left reporters in stitches and stunned UEFA officials.

The drama ignited when Bright Osayi-Samuel went down under a challenge from Manuel Ugarte inside the United penalty area. While the referee waved play on, Mourinho exploded in fury on the touchline, earning an instant red card from Turpin.

"The referee told me something incredible," Mourinho said with a theatrical, straight-faced delivery after the match. "He told me that at the same time he was watching the action in the box, he was also watching my behavior on the touchline. I want to congratulate him because he has absolutely incredible vision! To see a penalty incident at 100 miles per hour with one eye, and with the other eye watch my bench behavior—that’s why he is one of the best referees in the world!"

Mourinho then delivered his crowning punchline: "I think the best thing I have to do when I leave Fenerbahçe is to go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competitions. So, if any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go. I don’t want to say anything more about it."

On the pitch, Christian Eriksen had given United an early lead before Youssef En-Nesyri equalized with a bullet header, leaving Erik ten Hag’s side without a win in their opening three Europa League fixtures.

Mourinho praised his players for their courage and asserted that Fenerbahçe deserved all three points, having dominated possession and forced André Onana into a miraculous double save in the first half.
