LEICESTER — Premier League Matchday 9 kicks off under the Friday night floodlights with an emotionally charged East Midlands derby as Leicester City host in-form Nottingham Forest at the King Power Stadium.
Forest arrive in Leicester riding high on the back of an impressive 1–0 victory over Crystal Palace on Monday night, powered by veteran New Zealand marksman Chris Wood, who has notched five Premier League goals in eight matches.
A victory for Nuno Espírito Santo’s defensively resolute side would catapult Forest up to 5th place in the table on 16 points—their highest top-flight position at this stage of a season in nearly three decades.
Leicester, managed by Steve Cooper against the club he famously guided back to the Premier League, enter the contest with newfound confidence following back-to-back league victories against Bournemouth and Southampton.
"Derbies under the floodlights are always special," Nuno said in his pre-match address. "We know what this game means to our supporters. Leicester have great quality in transition with Jamie Vardy, so our organization must be perfect from the first minute."
Vardy, at 37 years of age, has already netted three league goals this term and will look to exploit any lapses in Forest’s backline alongside Facundo Buonanotte.
