LEIPZIG — When Arne Slot stepped into the colossal shoes vacated by Jürgen Klopp in June, few expected the Dutch tactician to eclipse every managerial legend in Liverpool’s illustrious 132-year history inside his first two months in charge.
Yet with Wednesday’s disciplined 1–0 win over RB Leipzig in eastern Germany, Slot accomplished what Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, Kenny Dalglish, and Klopp never did: winning 11 of his opening 12 matches in all competitions.
The decisive moment arrived on 27 minutes. Kostas Tsimikas floated a teasing delivery to the far post where Mohamed Salah headed goalwards, allowing Darwin Núñez to poke the ball over the line from point-blank range to claim his second goal of the season.
Caoimhín Kelleher produced two world-class saves in the closing stages to preserve the clean sheet, denying Benjamin Šeško and Loïs Openda as Liverpool defended with steel and structural cohesion.
"Records are nice, but what matters is that we showed character in a difficult arena without conceding," Slot told TNT Sports. "We controlled large periods of the game, but Leipzig are dangerous on counter-attacks. Kelleher was outstanding, and Darwin showed great instincts."
Liverpool now sit second in the 36-team Champions League phase with a perfect nine points, level with Aston Villa as the only two sides with a flawless 100% record after three matchdays.
The Reds now travel directly to north London for Sunday’s mammoth top-of-the-table Premier League showdown against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
